LINK for DATA SET ( [ the link to 'Download the csv file here' is broken ] )
The data file linked below gives annual numbers of lynx trappings for to 1934 in the MacKenzie river area. Use the function in R to transform to the logarithms of the original counts. Plot the new time series.

Part (a)
The time series exhibits a clear cyclical component. Based on the plot, make an estimate of the period of this cyclical effect, giving your answer to the nearest whole year.

Part (b) Use the R command to compute and plot the raw periodogram of the time series. At which frequency does the raw periodogram attain its maximum value? Give your answer to three decimal places. Note that the command may help here.

Part (c) To improve the estimate of the underlying spectrum, we can smooth the raw periodogram. The option applies one or more (Daniell) smoother(s) to the periodogram. Smooth your periodogram by setting , which applies two filters in turn. At which frequency does the smoothed periodogram attain its maximum value? Give your answer to three decimal places.

Part (d) Using your smoothed periodogram, provide an estimate of the period of the underlying cyclical component. Give your answer to two decimal places.
